History Founded in 1948, The Meadows Foundation carries on a family philanthropic legacy that has spanned 60 years and three generations. From his modest beginnings, Algur H. Meadows achieved success as the founder of General American Oil Company of Texas, one of the nation’s most successful independent oil and gas production companies. Al and his first wife, Virginia S. Meadows, established the Foundation in appreciation for their many blessings and to pass on to their family the joy and responsibility of helping others. They committed the work of the Foundation to assisting the people and the State of Texas, the state from which they derived much of the wealth that seeded the Foundation.
Mission The Meadows Foundation exists to assist people and institutions of Texas improve the quality and circumstances of life for themselves and future generations.
Vision The Meadows Foundation strives to exemplify the principles of its founder in addressing basic human needs by working toward the elimination of ignorance, hopelessness, and suffering; protecting the environment; providing cultural enrichment; encouraging excellence; and promoting understanding and cooperation among people.
