Grants Strategy: 2009 -- 2010
In response to the current economic climate, the Directors of the Foundation have established the following grants strategy for 2009 and 2010. First priority will be grants to ensure that essential human services are there for those in need. We also will be looking for ways to help families avoid home foreclosure, provide job training for those out of work, and healthcare for those without insurance. In addition, grants and no-interest loans will be made to provide emergency operating funds to enable nonprofit agencies to survive and emerge stronger than before.
Within budget constraints, we will continue support for our three current initiatives: improving public education, reducing mental illness, and protecting the natural environment. Unfortunately, these decisions will mean that in the near term, the Foundation will not be able to support some programs and capital projects that do not align with current priorities. We request that organizations postpone or defer applying for such purposes until later in the year or in 2010.
Beginning this year, the Foundation is asking organizations making application for construction or renovation funding to follow our recently adopted green builiding guidelines posted on the Grants section of this site. While compliance with the guidelines is voluntary, preference will be given to projects that meet the Foundation's performance goals for reducing water and energy consumption.
